REGIONAL AWARDS The tidy towns regional awards took place on Tuesday last in the Golden Thatch, Emly. Regional winners from Carlow, Kilkenny, Waterford Wexford and Tipperary gathered to receive their awards from the Minister of the Environment, Phil Hogan. Emly were among the main prizewinners receiving the awards that had been announced at the national award ceremony in Dublin in September which included the best village in Ireland and Regional overall winners. VISITORS This last week has seen many visitors coming to Emly after the village was announced as Ireland’s tidiest village on Monday last. A number of the Emly tidy town committee members were in The Helix in Dublin for the announcing of the National Tidy Town Awards and were welcomed back to Emly that evening when they brought the trophy home. EMLY – TIDIEST VILLAGE The annual tidy town awards were announced in Dublin today. Emly, with 309 marks, was named as Ireland’s tidiest village. Emly also won the overall regional award, the county award and the gold medal. Killarney was named as Ireland’s tidiest town with 310 marks.
