A very entertaining evening of music, song and dance was provided by the pupils of  Emly N.S on Friday evening last in the Golden Thatch. A large appreciative audience was captivated by the high standard of music performances provided by the boys and girls of the school many of whom are taking part in the upcoming county fleadh cheoil  in Roscrea.

Hard Luck to Junior A Hurlers how were beaten by Clonoulty-Rossmore on Monday.

The Final Score was 0-20 to 1-12.

Well done to Minor B Footballers with Sean Treacys who won their West Semi Final.

The Final score was 3-07 to 2-09. They will play Rockwell Rovers in the Final.

Emly were well beaten by Kildorrery of Cork in recent Intermediate Football challenge

Emly were beaten by Caherline of Limerick in recent Junior Hurling challenge.

The Lotto was not won and next week is €4,400.

EUCHARISTIC  CONGRESS – Collection

Each diocese will hold their Fourth National Collection this weekend – 5^th & 6^th May 2012. Each parish is asked to support the hosting of this event in Ireland in June this year.

BEREAVEMENT  SUPPORT

The next Bereavement Support Information Evening will take place in Milford Care Centre on Tuesday 22^nd May 2012 from 7-8.30pm.

These hour and a half-long evenings are designed to give general information on grief and bereavement to bereaved people, their family and friends. Bereavement counsellors are present in case there are specific questions.

TIDY  TOWN

A committee meeting will be held on Monday (7^th May) at 8.30pm in the Parish Hall. All members are asked to attend

ELECTRIC  CAR

There was great interest in the electric powered car that was brought to Emly today as part of an energy saving presentation by South Tipperary Energy Agency in conjunction with South Tipperary County Council and Emly Tidy Town committee.  Many took the opportunity to take a drive in the car.

The Eucharistic Congress is an international gathering of people which aims to:

• Promote an awareness of the central place of the Eucharist in the life and mission of the Catholic Church.
• Help improve our understanding and celebration of the liturgy.
• Draw attention to the social dimension of the Eucharist.

All large celebrations require a great deal of preparation.  The 50^th International Eucharistic Congress is no exception.  There are many challenges involved and we want to ensure that the whole Church, both here in Ireland and further afield, will see the Congress as an opportunity to deepen our faith in the Eucharist.  You are invited to support the Fourth National Collection on the 5^th and 6^th May 2012.  Your support, especially in these difficult economic times is very much appreciated.

VISITORS

Since Emly village won the overall Tidy Town award in 2009 and the Best Village award in 2011 there have been many visitors to the place. Last week a tidy town group from Killaskully came to visit.  Members of Emly tidy town committee have travelled to many towns and villages to encourage them in their endeavours and in some cases helped the starting up of a tidy town group.

10K RACE/WALKER

About 150 people took part in a 10K Race/Walk organised in Emly by the Emly Community Council. Winner of the race was Kevin Moore, Dundrum A.C. First Emly man home was Michael Ryan, Ballinvrina. The winner of the Lady’s Race was Aoife Carroll, Mallow A.C. The first Emly lady home was Catherine Quish.

Congratulations to the members of the Community Council on the organising of a very successful event.

SCRAP COLLECTION

Emly GAA club held a fund raising scrap collection on Friday and Saturday last. Many householders and farmers took the opportunity to do a big clean-out which hopefully was of good financial value to the local club.
