A VISION OF PARISH – Follow-up Meeting

GOSPEL REFLECTION

We see Jesus in our gospel as one who heals and one who challenges the power of evil in the world. Then Jesus goes off to a desert place to pray. After a hectic day he felt the need for quiet to ground himself once more. In the busyness of life how do you keep in touch with what is going on inside yourself? How do you keep in touch with God? Where do you find your ‘deserted place’?

Jesus shows himself as a person seeking to break new ground. The disciples want him to continue ministry where he is. He wants to move on.

CIRCLE OF FRIENDS

A meeting will be held in the Golden Thatch on Tues 7^th Feb at 7.30pm. Guest speaker will be Kathleen O’Callaghan, Reflexologist. All are welcome.

EMLY TIDY TOWN COMMITTEE

The members of Emly tidy Town committee express their deepest sympathy to the Cunningham family on the death of their mother Phil.

A workshop on energy conservation in the home will be held in the parish hall on Monday next (Feb 6^th) at 8pm. This is a great opportunity to discover how to save energy in the home and cut bills. Tea and coffee will be served. Open to all.

LOURDES – Youth Helpers.

Any fifth Year Student interested in travelling to Lourdes as a Youth Helper on the Cashel & Emly Pilgrimage should give their names to Patsy Byrne. The pilgrimage takes place from the 16^th -21^st June next.

DEATH

The death took place today of Philomena (Phil) Cunningham, Lr. Main St, Emly. Phil who was pre-deceased by her husband Jimmy and daughter Siobhán is bereaved by her son Seamus, her daughters Geraldine and Mary T., daughter-in law, sons-in-law and grandchildren. Funeral Mass will take place in Emly on Wednesday morning at 11.30am.

GOSPEL REFLECTION

In this first chapter Mark familiarises his readers with the type of things Jesus did to proclaim the kingdom, the Reign of God. Our passage today touches on two of these, the first being that ‘he taught as one having authority’. Jesus combined teaching with healing, and he drove the evil spirit out of the man. The power of God that worked this wonder through Jesus is also at work in and through us today.

GOSPEL REFLECTION

‘The time is fulfilled’ – this is a decisive moment in the life of Jesus. His public ministry is about to begin.

‘Repent and believe the good news’. Jesus called for a change of heart as a response to the good news of the gospel. A new level of faith in yourself leads to a new way of seeing yourself. A new way of understanding God leads to a conversion in how we relate to God, a change of heart.

Emly Variety Players are preparing to go back onstage in the near future with a production of John B. Keane’s ‘Many Young Men of Twenty’.

This production will come on the heels of the Players pantomime production of ‘Ole King Cole’ which they produced early last December.

DEATH

The death after a long illness has taken place of Pat Hickey, Tulla, Emly. He is bereaved by his mother, brothers and sisters and relatives. His funeral Mass will take place in Emly church on Tuesday morning at 11.30am.

As we move on from the Christmas season thanks to all who prepared, cleaned and decorated the church, erected the crib and the Christmas tree; all who prepared for and took part in the Christmas liturgy and created a suitable atmosphere for the celebration of the birth of Christ.

Thanks also to all who contributed to our Envelope Collection throughout the year. This Envelope Collection in Emly parish allows parishioners to contribute to the parish at a time and in a way that is suitable for them. Envelopes are always available in the church.
